About Los Gatos Horseman

We are a riding club - join us if you are looking for fun rides of all levels with people who enjoy horsing around. Our rides usually offer fast and slow groups so everyone can participate. We organize clinics, playdays and other social events all year round.

Become a member!

We are a riding club - so if you are new to the area or trail riding, you will meet many liked minded equestrians and never be short of an opportunity to trail ride. We organize at least one LGHA ride per month and make sure riders of all levels are taken care of.

We have three camping trips scheduled in closeby locations, members enjoy all day riding and after-ride social get togethers in a relaxed atmosphere.

Our parties and post-ride social events are a great way to talk horse without riding one.

Events such a horseman ship clinics, play days and our youth group bring out the fun in horsing around!

Backcountry Chef in the News

John Rosica, past LGHA president is featured in the Los Gatos and Saratoga Weekly News for his adventures as back country chef.

The Los Gatos Horseman's Association is best described as an eating and riding club.

Members are horse lovers in Los Gatos and nearby cities who generally keep their animals in the foothills of town and have been riding and eating together for more than 37 years. Their rides usually end with a potluck meal, or at a restaurant with a place to tie horses.

Nowhere was the happy combination of food and horse more evident than at the club's annual camping trip in the mountains near La Honda. Joining the group of 44 horse people — including 11 youngsters — and 33 horses at Jack Brook Horse Camp was longtime member John Rosica of Morgan Hill. His occasional trail cookout for fellow members in past years is now a nearly a full time job in the Sierra.

Rosica is a backcountry chef, serving pack outfits that crisscross the eastern and western slopes of the mountains, some of his 21 mules carrying his collapsible kitchen.

Our event coordinator is Scott. He is always looking for ideas and suggestions! Click here to contact him - for event and riding suggestions and feedback on past events. If you need assistance with transportation to any ride we will try our best to coordinate with other members - it is our goal to have everyone join our rides!

Please remember to RSVP if you are planning to join a ride or event, it helps us organize staging areas, riding groups and make sure facilities are treated as expected. Please contact the event host listed on the calendar.

Ride in a group that's right for you:

Bringing diverse, fun and safe trail rides to our members is our goal. On every ride, we organize three groups, based on your ability and preference to ride - from walk only to fast paced runs. You can choose to ride in:

"The Kentucky Derby"

Fast gallops and maybe a few races, this will test your skills and your horse's endurance.

"A ride in the park"

A mix of walk, trot and slow canter

"Watch the birds"

Walk only, including a 20 minute warm up session on the ground.

Ideal for novice trail riders and nervous horses.

Trail Etiquette:

For rides on the beach, please follow the State guidelines, as posted by San Martin Horseman. We need to ensure those beaches remain open to horses.
